The Humble Indie Bundle 3

There’s a new Humble Indie Bundle! Pay whatever you like and get 5 games by Frozenbyte. I can vouch for Trine, as I’ve played it to death and absolutely loved it. Shadowgrounds wasn’t quite so hot, but after Alien Swarm, maybe theres fun to be had in this top-down shooter. You get 2 bonus games which aren’t even released yet, but they look promising. Remember, half of the money goes to charity (if you choose), and its completely the cheapest way to get these games, considering you could get all 5 for just $1 if you so desired. Go on, check it out at www.humblebundle.com. Read More ››

Portal 2 Comic – Lab Rat

This is fantastic. In the buildup to Portal 2’s release, Valve have released some highly amusing Aperture Science videos (check back later for more on these…) as well as a new comic. Lab Rat uncovers some great little details regarding the plot to both Portal games and has a bunch of answers to some questions you might have had about the first game. Check it out over here, like, now. Read More ››

Dino D-Day First Impressions

“We regret to inform you that your son has been eaten by dinosaurs in the line of duty.” Dino D-Day is out, and I’ve just been playing it. Pitching the Allies vs Nazi dinosaurs in a WW2 setting is pretty fun, it seems. It would be unfair to judge the game on the mere 40 minutes I spent checking it out, so take a look at some amusing screenshots I gathered below.

Currently Playing: Brotherhood, Starcraft2, Undead Nightmare

Once again I find myself in the middle of a trio of games conveniently giving me an excuse to write up another of this little articles. Two of these games I started in 2010, and the other is also from last year but I decided to endure the inexplicable 5 month delay for the PC version… Assassins Creed Brotherhood was very much worth the wait, I have a few missions left of Starcraft 2, and I’ve honestly no idea how many more zombies I’ll be killing in Undead Nightmare, but I just unlocked the blunderbuss which should make everything a lot easier from here on.

Review – Crysis 2

The sequel to what is widely regarded as the best-looking-game-ever-made had a lot to live up to, only this time it isn’t a PC graphics card melting exclusive – its out on the consoles this time around as well. I have played through the entire singleplayer campaign on PC over the last couple of nights and have gathered my thoughts in this here review. Abandoning the tropical island setting for a version of New York city that’s being violently ripped apart by an alien invasion, Crysis 2 seems to be very different to its predacessor. But is it any good? Read on to find out…

Horror Games are Too Scary for their Own Good

I am a wimp. I can freely admit it, and I feel no shame. There have been many horror games I’ve purchased in the past, convincing myself that I’ll get through them, but aside from a few exceptions – the first Dead Space being a particularly proud moment – it’s fair to say I am a total failure when it comes to finishing horror games.

Crysis 2 Launch Trailer

Crysis 2 is out in America already, and we’re getting ours on Friday here in the UK. It looks stunning, and many reviews are claiming it to be the best-looking console game ever. I’m quite gutted that its had to be dumbed down for them frankly, but theres no denying the game still looks fantastic. Paul and I have been preparing ourselves for it by revisiting the original Crysis, and the semi-sequel Warhead all this week, which I finally got around to finishing. It still looks gorgeous even after a few years. Click below to see the launch trailer for Crysis 2.

Minecraft – Pet Wolves!

The latest Minecraft update is on its way, and will feature pets! Pet wolves, to be precise. They are both cute and fearsome, as this new video suggests. Look at the way they shake themselves after having a swim! I know nothing more about this, but I can’t wait. Click below to see the video.

Batman Arkham City Gameplay Trailer

Ooooh yes, this is looking good. New trailer for Batman Arkham City is below and it shows off Batman doing what he does best, in the form of swooping around and battering nutters. The city itself looks great too, I look forward to exploring its dark alleys and moody streets, and should prove to be a vastly different environment to the original Asylum.

Unreal – coolest tech demo ever?

Unreal have revealed what their new engine will be capable of. Many games have used the Unreal engines as their backbone (Bioshock, Batman Arkham Asylum, Bulletstorm to name a few recent ones) so its hard to contain the excited yelps when you see a video like this. New lighting effects, ‘bokeh’ depth of field, and lots of other phrases for “snazzier graphics” mean the next generation should be suitably prettified.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel trailer

There’s a new Call of Juarez game coming out, and its going in a very different direction. Scrapping the wild west setting for a modern one is a bold move – don’t we have enough modern shooters these days? Call of Juarez’s Wild West felt like a breath of fresh air in a genre saturated with modern shooters. Still, if this trailer is anything to go by, they’re at least trying to keep the themes of lawmen vs outlaws, and I’m certainly interested enough to keep my eye on it. It’s due out in Summer 2011. See the trailer below.

Magicka – Wizards at War

This amusing indie game snuck past our radars last month, but a new trailer for a Vietnam expansion?/sequel? grabbed our attention quite easily. It looks like a cross between Castle Crashers and Diablo, with an emphasis on casting all manner of crazy spells and mowing down mobs of enemies. We have since both bought it on Steam and will be trying the co-op mode sometime soon, but in the meantime, check out the two highly entertaining trailers below.
