Review – Assassins Creed: Brotherhood

So, after an inexcusable 5 month delay, the PC version of Assassins Creed: Brotherhood finally arrived in March, and I’ve sunk a huge amount of time into it over these past few weeks, yet I haven’t even touched the multiplayer component. I have heard good things, but simply not had a chance to try it out yet, so for this review I will be focusing entirely on my singleplayer experience. Continuing where AC2 left off, Brotherhood expands the story of Ezio and Desmond in the most complete package in the franchise’s lifespan so far.

Battlefield 3 – 12 Minute Trailer

If you’ve seen a few of the Battlefield 3 trailers lately, you might be interested to see the full 12 minute version, which pieces them all together, and adds a few previously unseen scenes. It is glorious.

Motherf- Portal 2 remains locked… for now.

Fuckers

Those sneaky bastards! Well, we waited with immense anticipation for today’s countdown timer on Aperturescience.com to hit 00:00:00, and most of the world – including ourselves – thought it would mean the early release of Portal 2. Sadly, we were massively mistaken, and the timer actually led us to let another timer. Good grief! Could Valve toy with us anymore?!

Anyway, the timer it led us to now is significantly more interesting, as it appears to be a page devoted to getting as many people playing a select handful of games, and gaining as many achievements as possible before the official release of Portal 2 on Steam next Tuesday. If the quota is met, then we seem to be promised an actual early release, instead of the fake one that we all believed was coming. Another suggestion has been that what is really being asked of us is that we merely play the games in one large coordinated effort, filling up the red meters on the new page, to produce enough fictional power to allow Portal 2 to release early.

Whatever the hell we need to be doing, we’re certainly going to put in some time on any of the required games that we currently own.

Portal 2 releasing early…

Aperture Countdown

… or so we hope! Something exciting is happening, and we really, really, really, really, really hope it’s that Portal 2 is releasing early. There’s speculation online at the moment, because this counter from the end of the recent ARG (Alternate Reality Game) to do with Portal 2’s upcoming release is highly suspicious. We have our fingers crossed for some really great news. We’ll be absolutely certain to post it here as soon as we know more!

Watch the countdown yourself. Personally, I ain’t closing that window until the timer reveals its delicious secret. See you in around 6 hours!

*Update*: Despite already being pre-loaded on my computer since yesterday, Portal 2 is suddenly updating again in Steam. Could this be something to do with our countdown? Only 30 minutes remain…

*Update*: More clues here!

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City has gone all action…

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City

… and Leon Kennedy looks really shiny. There’s another Resident Evil game with a rather uninspired name on the way, and it looks like we’ll be playing it as a whole new cast of multi-lingual super-secret Umbrella soldiers – also they don’t seem very nice.

Aperture Science Investment Ads

*edit*: Portal 2 will have a worldwide release on Steam – Tuesday 19th April 2011. The retail release date is slightly staggered, being Tuesday for North America, but Europe has to inexplicably wait ’til Thursday. Looks like Steam is the way to go.

PORTAL 2 IS OUT NEXT WEEK!

Ahem… If you’ve got Portal 2 pre-ordered on Steam, feel free to begin pre-loading it right now. If you do, it means you’ll be able to play the second it gets unlocked, which will be Thursday in the UK/Europe, or Tuesday night if you’re lucky enough to live in America. Damn yanks. Anyway, Valve have been making some hilarious Aperture Science ‘Investment Ads’ over the last couple of weeks, and they’re embedded below.

The Humble Indie Bundle 3

There’s a new Humble Indie Bundle! Pay whatever you like and get 5 games by Frozenbyte. I can vouch for Trine, as I’ve played it to death and absolutely loved it. Shadowgrounds wasn’t quite so hot, but after Alien Swarm, maybe theres fun to be had in this top-down shooter. You get 2 bonus games which aren’t even released yet, but they look promising. Remember, half of the money goes to charity (if you choose), and its completely the cheapest way to get these games, considering you could get all 5 for just $1 if you so desired. Go on, check it out at www.humblebundle.com.

Portal 2 Comic – Lab Rat

This is fantastic. In the buildup to Portal 2’s release, Valve have released some highly amusing Aperture Science videos (check back later for more on these…) as well as a new comic. Lab Rat uncovers some great little details regarding the plot to both Portal games and has a bunch of answers to some questions you might have had about the first game. Check it out over here, like, now.

Dino D-Day First Impressions

“We regret to inform you that your son has been eaten by dinosaurs in the line of duty.” Dino D-Day is out, and I’ve just been playing it. Pitching the Allies vs Nazi dinosaurs in a WW2 setting is pretty fun, it seems. It would be unfair to judge the game on the mere 40 minutes I spent checking it out, so take a look at some amusing screenshots I gathered below.

The Deus Ex Diaries

Deus Ex Diaries

We can’t bloody wait for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the long awaited prequel to the original Deus Ex that was on PC way back in 2000, which means that for the next five months until it’s finally released, there’s going to be a lot of time to be filled doing/playing other things. With that in mind, and considering how much I bloody love the Deus Ex universe, I decided to go back in time and play the original game all over again, whilst keeping a diary-ish record of my journey back to the past.

Movie Review – Source Code

Source Code

Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) is an American Air Force pilot taking part in a new government program called Source Code, in an effort to prevent a terrorist attack on Chicago, USA. Conveniently, the movie itself is called Source Code. We’ve discussed how we felt about it right here…
