The Worth of a Call of Duty Game

Guest Article : Steven Harbor

So, I recently bought Call of Duty: Black Ops. I’ve played the campaign, I’ve played at most ten hours of multiplayer, and I already feel ready to make a verdict. Some may describe this as the law of diminishing returns, as I have spent much longer on Modern Warfare 2, and Call of Duty 4 longer still. When I chose to buy a Black Ops, I spent a long time deliberating on what should have been a no-brainer purchase, and the reason is simple. I mean let’s face it, when you buy a Call of Duty game, you already know exactly what’s inside the box. That is, unless of course you bought it on eBay from Doc Brown.

Team Fortress 2 – Now FREE to Play

Team Fortress just went Free-to-Play. Forever. If you’ve never played the ultra-violent cartoon shooter before, now you have absolutely no reason not to. My Steam profile claims I’ve poured over 40 hours into this, but I know its at least double that in reality because I was there from the very first beta. I’ve seen it evolve from the beginning, with constant free updates which have added new maps, new weapons and yes, hats… it really is amazing how much Valve have added to the game over the years and now its available completely free. Also, Meet the Medic below.

Just What the Hell is the Wii U?

Guest Article : Steven Harbor

E3 has come and gone, and if there is one thing people will surely remember most about 2011’s expo, it will be the revealing of the Wii U. Leading up to its announcement, rumors and speculation about the “Wii HD” was getting weirder and weirder. It turns out that the actual announcement was just as weird, if not more so. In fact, it was so weird that Nintendo’s stock fell significantly just after the revealing of their new system. This is no doubt due to the fact that people are still largely confused about what the hell this thing is. So what is it about the Wii U that’s so hard to grasp?

Movie Review – 127 Hours

127 Hours is the ninth feature film by English director Danny Boyle and tells the shockingly true story of Aron Ralston who, while out climbing in Blue John Canyon of Utah, found himself trapped alone for over 5 days. He managed to escape, but it literally cost him an arm to survive. It’s a remarkable story, and has been crafted into a mesmerising film I’ll never forget.

Hitman: Absolution Gameplay Video

Hitman: Absolution

It took me a while to notice this, and while RPS posted a link to a fan edited video of some of the same Hitman: Absolution gameplay clips, I wasn’t aware that there was an official video on the Absolution tumblr blog showing an E3 interview between one of the related chaps and IGN. Just in case you shared my fate, the aforementioned video is right here.

An Explosive E3 Roundup

E3 2011 Roundup

So last week saw a fantastic range of explosive awesomeness at E3; new games were announced, mostly involving death and explosions, existing ones got gorgeous new trailers, showing off fantastic gameplay and cinematics, and Nintendo unveiled a bloody unusual looking new console, one that has received rather conflicting first impressions across the board.

Review – L.A Noire

LA Noire

It’s a thundering, rainy evening. I pull up to a crime scene with my partner, the tyres of the car squelching to a stop in the wet mud. I take a step out of the car and make my way past the reporters and flash photography, up to the cordoned off area to speak with the officer on duty about the situation. I’m given the details, and find myself right in the middle of a murder investigation. There’s a body, some footprints, and a variety of possible clues scattered around the area. A shocked witness sits nearby beneath an umbrella, ready for questioning. It’s time to get my hands dirty and solve another gruesome case. This is LA Noire.

Minecraft 1.6 – A Wolf’s Tale

I tamed my first wolf the other day. Since 1.6 of the Minecraft beta was released, there’s been lots of cool new features, but by far the best addition is the packs of wolves that now roam the countryside. Now I can live the dream of exploring a new world with a canine companion. Its just like that film Cast Away, only with a dog instead of a football.

Halo 4 – Finish the Fight Again

Microsoft have announced a sequel to the quaint sci-fi adventure Halo. It should be a game where you shoot aliens and drive buggies, if previous entries in the reasonably popular series are anything to go by. It may also feature some multiplayer, which is nice if you enjoy that sort of thing. You’ll also learn the fate of that Master Chief fellow, too. Tedious trailer is below.
