E3 2011 Roundup

So last week saw a fantastic range of explosive awesomeness at E3; new games were announced, mostly involving death and explosions, existing ones got gorgeous new trailers, showing off fantastic gameplay and cinematics, and Nintendo unveiled a bloody unusual looking new console, one that has received rather conflicting first impressions across the board.

Battlefield 3

By far the standout game at E3 for us this year is the long-anticipated Battlefield 3. It genuinely feels like it could contend with CoD this year, and though we know it won’t outsell that monster, I’m confident it’ll be the superior game. Check out this 8 minute video of the singleplayer mission ‘Thunder Run’, which features many tanks and explosions.

Mass Effect 3

The sequel to our 2010 game of the year is obviously a big blip on our radars here at BcR, and thankfully there were some excellent tidbits revealed at E3 last week. The Reapers are coming to Earth, and Shepherd must stop them. We. Can’t. Wait.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Skyrim is looking to be the next big open world RPG, and the first real sequel to Oblivion. We got a glimpse of what it’ll be like to fight the legendary dragons in the game in this awesome gameplay footage at E3.

Tomb Raider

After this fantastic CGI trailer, E3 revealed some interesting in-game footage for the new Tomb Raider origins game, featuring some darker, more dangerous environments for Lara to explore. There’s a worrying amount of quick-time events shown in the demo video, but the game is still over a year away, so plenty of time for this to evolve. Have a look for yourself.

Wii U

Nintendo announced a new console, and we had a little chat about it.

Assassins Creed: Revelations

We love Ezio, but its hard to be excited about the prospect of yet another game about him. Revelations marks the second game Ubisoft have turned around in under a year, and if Brotherhood hadn’t been as excellent as it was, I’d be quite worried about this final installment. But it was, and so I’m not. I’ll likely still have to wait 6 bloody months for the PC version, though.

Hitman: Absolution

The new Hitman game had some gameplay footage leaked the other day, and it looks great. Paul is particularly looking forward to this, and rightly so. IO are returning to the franchise they do best, after the hit-and-miss experiments that were Kane and Lynch, so hopefully they can use what they’ve learned to make this the best Hitman game yet.

And the rest…

Plenty of other E3 gaming goodness was revealed this year, so check out our coverage below:

Bioshock Infinite
Uncharted 3
FarCry 3
Prey 2
Halo 4
LotRO: Rise of Isengard

I recently played through Cult of the Lamb, a satirical take on the concept of running a demonic cult. It turns horrific things like sacrificial rituals, cannibalism and straight up gaslighting abuse into hilarious amusements by filtering everything through its cartoonish lens. You are a sheep, after all, and all your followers are sycophantic anthropomorphic […]

Hello, world! This post marks the moment in time and space when BangClickReload got a little redesign and was dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Mass Effect 3

There’s an awesome trailer for Mass Effect 3 I’ve just seen in my emails that I somehow never saw before, so I’ve borrowed it and placed it right here for your viewing pleasure. Spoiler: there’s effing huge robots, and smashing frozen enemies with a holographic sword. If there wasn’t so much pure awesome due out in the remainder of this year, the wait for this could be bloody agonizing.

It’s only a few months now until Fallout New Vegas is released, and personally I just can’t wait! In great anticipation and as a huge fan of everything Fallout, I thought it could be fun to revisit my own story of how I found Fallout, and the path it has taken since the very first game by Black Isle Studios in 1997, right up to the brightly-lit release due out this Autumn.
