What a load of crap this is. Notch, creator of Minecraft and all-round indie-game legend, is being sued by Bethesda. Mojang have upset some uppity bigwigs by trying to call their new game ‘Scrolls’, which apparantly is too similar to ‘The Elder Scrolls’ (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc). As a gamer with enough basic knowledge to understand they are 2 completely different games based on 2 very different genres – one is a sprawling third-person RPG, the other is a card collecting game with a fantasy theme – I can’t understand why such a fuss should be made. Surely you can’t copyright a single word, especially one so generic as ‘scrolls’. And yet here we are – its like Tim Langdell all over again. The world of copyright and trademarks can be pretty damn infuriating sometimes. The fact that this one involves two game developers I am very fond of is saddening.

This is fantastic. In the buildup to Portal 2’s release, Valve have released some highly amusing Aperture Science videos (check back later for more on these…) as well as a new comic. Lab Rat uncovers some great little details regarding the plot to both Portal games and has a bunch of answers to some questions you might have had about the first game. To say I’m a fan of the original Deus Ex is a bit of an understatement, and I must admit that my hopes and expectations of this prequel were mountainous. Dozens of trailers and gameplay previews teased me with what was clearly a beautifully designed game graphically, but I was dying to know if the story and gameplay would prove to be as deep and ambitious as its older brother. And now we find ourselves in the present. I have played through the entirety of Human Revolution, and I now know the answer…
Crysis 2 is out in America already, and we’re getting ours on Friday here in the UK. It looks stunning, and many reviews are claiming it to be the best-looking console game ever. I’m quite gutted that its had to be dumbed down for them frankly, but theres no denying the game still looks fantastic. Paul and I have been preparing ourselves for it by revisiting the original Crysis, and the semi-sequel Warhead all this week, which I finally got around to finishing.
