There’s only one game I’m thinking of today, but we can’t have a ‘Cyborg Day’ without mentioning the game that preceded today’s big release over a decade ago. I say ‘precedes’, but technically Deus Ex: Human Revolution is set before JC Denton even existed. Alas, let us reminisce. The new Prince of Persia game treads very familiar ground. As a fan of the original trilogy, I went into this new instalment with certain expectations, and have generally come away pretty satisfied. 2008’s Prince of Persia game was disappointingly easy (it was literally impossible to die) whereas The Forgotten Sands goes back to its roots: brilliant environmental puzzles with the occasional simple, repetitive, yet fun combat.

As if I needed even more reason to play videogames, an intellectual woman goes and does a heap of research about it and provides the most convincing argument for why we should all play more games that I’ve ever heard. Below is a video of Jane McGonigal, a games designer and all-round awesome person who believes that “Reality is broken and we need to make it work more like a game.” It’s a 20 minute presentation, recorded in February 2010, and it’s one of the most thought-provoking things I’ve seen all year.
