Battlefield 3

Finally! An awesome little teaser trailer for Battlefield 3 has been released, and most importantly, you can quite clearly see a jet. A JET! After Bad Company simplified the series a little, taking away the ability to go prone, and worse, the JETS, we are very happy to see they are going back to the old way of doing things with BF3 by bringing all that good shit back. Very, very happy. Let’s just hope they take the Destruction 2.0 from Bad Company and plonk it right in here.

And apparently.. it’s due out Autumn this year. Yay!

From the official Battlefield 3 site:

Battlefield 3 is the true successor to Battlefield 2. Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign – all straight out of the box. As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound? All this built with our powerful new game engine Frostbite 2, which you’ll hear and see a lot of in the months leading up to launch.

Thankfully we have a great lineup of games before then to keep us busy, but damn, Autumn won’t come bloody quickly enough!

Dome Keeper is an excellent little spin on the tower defense game, in which you play the role of a jetpacking miner defending his base from swarms of aliens, whilst searching for a hidden relic buried somewhere beneath him. And now, with this huge free update, you can play it with friends.

Cloudpunk – Review

I want to talk about Cloudpunk, a game where you get to be a flying-car delivery driver in a futuristic cyberpunk city. Its world is an incredible achievement of environmental design, and while the gameplay itself may be basic, the city of Nivalis is a thing of beauty to behold. Nivalis is built out of hundreds of hand-modelled cuboid buildings; there’s nothing procedural about it. Apparently it took 3 years for the devs to design the city, and it really shows.

Cast n Chill, a pixel art style fishing game featuring a small fishing boat, dog companion and a beautiful background of autumnal mountain trees and a lake with a waterfall.

I do love me some quality pixel art, and it doesn’t get much better than this. Cast n Chill is a cozy side-scrolling fishing game by small indie dev team Wombat Brawler, with absolutely gorgeous visuals. It’s simple to play, and you you can dip in and out of it at your leisure, making it a fine addition to our collection of coffee break games.

Review – Doki Doki Literature Club

Matt Clarke

February 17, 2018

Doki Doki Literature Club has dug its way into my chest and ripped me apart over the last couple of nights. It’s a free visual novel game where you get to know a bunch of girls in an afterschool book club… except not really. It looks exactly like any other tropey Japanese dating sim type game, but what lurks underneath this cutesy exterior is something really quite sinister and thought-provoking. The game’s tagline does a good job of reminding you that all is not what it seems: “This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.

Gaming Memories – Final Fantasy VII

Format: PS1 & PC
Release date: 1997

I’m not sure what to tell you about FF7. Simply put, it’s one of my all-time favourite games, and the hordes of fans it has makes me feel like a bit of a cliché to even include it in this feature. But I have to. It changed my life, I think. Before this, I had not played a game with such a deep and engaging story, an epic tale about a host of very likable characters, all unique and fleshed out with interesting back stories. It’s just wonderful.
