Telltale making Jurassic Park

Telltale have been busily making fun point and click adventure games for a while now, with mostly good results. I didn’t play any of the new Sam and Max games, admittedly, but I tried the Strong Bad and Monkey Island episodes, and they seemed alright. Just nothing spectacular. Then recently, they’ve been trying some new game ideas such as Late Night At the Inventory, a simple but entertaining poker game. They also made the surprise jump to a more mainstream popular franchise in Back to the Future (the second episode of which is out today, in fact). Still, none of these have piped my interest as much as the prospect of a JURASSIC PARK GAME! YEEEAH!

A few details: it’s going to be a third person adventure, set during the timeline of the first movie, and apparantly follows some all-new characters. Dennis Nedry’s can of dino-embryo’s seems to be integral to the plot in some way or another, but thats pretty much all I can work out from the trailer. I’m just excited at the idea of DINOSAURS! I’m a huge fan of the Jurassic Park films and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this game, which is not far away: April 2011 seems to be the planned release date. Check out the first trailer below.

Cloudpunk – Review

I want to talk about Cloudpunk, a game where you get to be a flying-car delivery driver in a futuristic cyberpunk city. Its world is an incredible achievement of environmental design, and while the gameplay itself may be basic, the city of Nivalis is a thing of beauty to behold. Nivalis is built out of hundreds of hand-modelled cuboid buildings; there’s nothing procedural about it. Apparently it took 3 years for the devs to design the city, and it really shows.

Coffee Break – Cast n Chill

I do love me some quality pixel art, and it doesn’t get much better than this. Cast n Chill is a cozy side-scrolling fishing game by small indie dev team Wombat Brawler, with absolutely gorgeous visuals. It’s simple to play, and you you can dip in and out of it at your leisure, making it a fine addition to our collection of coffee break games.

Embracing the Binge, but at What Cost?

Is bingeing bad for us? It seems an obvious question, but I have been thinking about it lately, while revisiting Lost, the tv show that started 22 years ago (cripes, I feel old). Back when it was airing, my friends and I watched it religiously every week, talked about it in great detail, eagerly awaiting the next episode. It was the definitive show of its time, sparking debates and endless theories. It felt great to be a part of that, the sense of all experiencing the same thing together over a long period of time – most seasons had over 20 episodes, which is way more than most shows get these days – and they aired one by one, every week for several months. In today’s age of bingeing a show from beginning to end, I wonder what we are missing by not taking our time.

Gaming Memories – World of Warcraft

Matt Clarke

April 16, 2017

WoW consumed my life for almost the entirety of 2004/05, when I was studying for my A-levels, and was probably a key contributor to my D-grades. I’m probably not the only person who would admit to daydreaming of roaming through Elwynn Forest, even many years after I stopped playing. I just spent so much time there, and other places of that world, sometimes roleplaying, always questing, but best of all simply exploring an unknown land. Even though I LOVE what Blizzard did in Cataclysm, my favourite memories all come from what they call Vanilla WoW, the original version of the game.

The 5 Funniest Moments of Expedition 33

March 10, 2026

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a depressing game. It’s epic and majestic, but undoubtedly bleak. Luckily, it also has some hilarious moments timed with comedic perfection, which somehow never feel out of place. It’s a credit to the writers, and the performances of the voice actors. These are my favourite funny moments of Expedition 33.

Review – Quantum Break

October 7, 2020

I don’t know many people who played Quantum Break, and nobody ever talks about it anymore, so it must have been rather forgettable for those who did. Even as I write this, two days after blasting my way to the end-credits of the 2016 bombastic time-travelling action romp, I am struggling to remember some of […]
