It’s been a while. A really long while. So long, in fact, that I’m actually scared to post this incase the old, dusty frame of BCR collapses under the strain of this singular new post. Because seriously, more than a year? Wow.

We’ve never been under any illusions that our humble little video games & film blog was ever popular or even viewed by more than 40 people in the world on a regular basis, but all the same I want to apologise for my failure as a would-be blogger in posting anything whatsoever post-circa-early 2012.

Did I get lazy? Maybe. Will this site ever be what we had once hoped it would? Probably not. I don’t anticipate I’ll be making any more posts any time soon, unless a mystical vision appears to me and explains it’s the only way I can save the world from the Apocalypse, but let’s be honest, I’d probably be too lazy even then.

Whilst this isn’t an official closure of BCR (who knows, maybe we’ll get a second wind one day), I’d like to say I did have a whale of a time writing articles about all kinds of tripe, particularly when reviewing video games, and if any of my scrawlings have ever entertained even one person, then I’ll be pleased.

For now, if you’re reading this because you thought you’d check and see if we’ve ever posted anything since April last year, thank you for -ever- coming back. However, unless we make some serious updates and plans to get back on track, don’t expect anything of interest to occur here for a good while, if at all.

If it does, we hope you will know about it.

Cheers

Cloudpunk – Review

I want to talk about Cloudpunk, a game where you get to be a flying-car delivery driver in a futuristic cyberpunk city. Its world is an incredible achievement of environmental design, and while the gameplay itself may be basic, the city of Nivalis is a thing of beauty to behold. Nivalis is built out of hundreds of hand-modelled cuboid buildings; there’s nothing procedural about it. Apparently it took 3 years for the devs to design the city, and it really shows.

Coffee Break – Cast n Chill

I do love me some quality pixel art, and it doesn’t get much better than this. Cast n Chill is a cozy side-scrolling fishing game by small indie dev team Wombat Brawler, with absolutely gorgeous visuals. It’s simple to play, and you you can dip in and out of it at your leisure, making it a fine addition to our collection of coffee break games.

Embracing the Binge, but at What Cost?

March 18, 2026

Is bingeing bad for us? It seems an obvious question, but I have been thinking about it lately, while revisiting Lost, the tv show that started 22 years ago (cripes, I feel old). Back when it was airing, my friends and I watched it religiously every week, talked about it in great detail, eagerly awaiting the next episode. It was the definitive show of its time, sparking debates and endless theories. It felt great to be a part of that, the sense of all experiencing the same thing together over a long period of time – most seasons had over 20 episodes, which is way more than most shows get these days – and they aired one by one, every week for several months. In today’s age of bingeing a show from beginning to end, I wonder what we are missing by not taking our time.

Gaming Memories – Trials

The Trials franchise is surely the most successful game to ever start out life as a Flash browser game. I remember playing the original game on Miniclip back in the day, and I have played every single iteration since. The game’s core concept is simple – you control a trials bike, and must navigate it across a series of increasingly difficult obstacle courses on a 2D pane. It’s the perfect pick-up-and-play game, because it’s easy to get the basics, but insanely difficult to master.

Review – Cult of the Lamb

March 8, 2026

I recently played through Cult of the Lamb, a satirical take on the concept of running a demonic cult. It turns horrific things like sacrificial rituals, cannibalism and straight up gaslighting abuse into hilarious amusements by filtering everything through its cartoonish lens. You are a sheep, after all, and all your followers are sycophantic anthropomorphic […]
