Portal 2 Co-op Discussion
Portal 2 came out a few weeks ago, after the gloriously frustrating, exciting, confusing and ridiculous ARG involving potatoes, Paul and I did what any self-respecting gamer would do. Yes, we set our pc’s up in a dark room, loaded up with snacks and LAN’d it up. We played through the entirety of the co-op mode and have gathered our thoughts. Here’s a clue: we liked it.
No Brink ’cause I’m Broke…
It’s that time of year again! The car insurance is due out, there’s endless bills, and sadly, I have to eat, so I have little or no cash to spend on the things that truly matter, like video games! This happened last year though, and hopefully it’ll pass pretty sharpish… What a bad time for it to happen though! In only 4 days we have Brink’s release (May 13th), Brink being a game that I really bloody want, and not to mention L.A. Noire is out about a week later (May 20th). Woe is me! I won’t be surprised, however, if I’m extremely irresponsible and get a hold of them one way or another anyway… Read More ››
Dino D-Day First Impressions
“We regret to inform you that your son has been eaten by dinosaurs in the line of duty.” Dino D-Day is out, and I’ve just been playing it. Pitching the Allies vs Nazi dinosaurs in a WW2 setting is pretty fun, it seems. It would be unfair to judge the game on the mere 40 minutes I spent checking it out, so take a look at some amusing screenshots I gathered below.
Horror Games are Too Scary for their Own Good
I am a wimp. I can freely admit it, and I feel no shame. There have been many horror games I’ve purchased in the past, convincing myself that I’ll get through them, but aside from a few exceptions – the first Dead Space being a particularly proud moment – it’s fair to say I am a total failure when it comes to finishing horror games.

Minecraft – How to (accidentally) Destroy a World
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking ‘Why does that little Minecraft man look so sad?‘. That little Minecraft man is Matt’s, and I have to take this moment to congratulate Matt on his achievement earlier this week, the achievement of managing to accidentally wipe an entire (new) world of things that a bunch of people worked pretty hard on. How the hell did he do that, you ask? Well, in the attempt to update our server so we could enjoy the wonders of the latest updates from version 1.3 (including a new lighting engine and BEDS), he inadvertently reset the server, losing the entire world and setting us back in a brand new world to start again. Now, thankfully, all I had built was a pretty shit skyscraper, and all the spawns were completely buggered (10 creepers per day attacking my structures), but there was also a lot of other hard work done by other members of the server. So yes, Matt, you should feel terrible.
Red Alert 3: Time Travel and Parachuting Bears
Steam had a crazy Command & Conquer sale this weekend which – though it didn’t have every C&C title ever in it – had great handful of the newer stuff for only £3.75 each. Included was Red Alert 3, the third (do ya think?) installment of the outstanding Red Alert spin-off universe from the original C&C game And let me tell you, if you haven’t played it in the years since it was released, then you are in for a treat, just as I was. This wasn’t exactly meant to be a review, because I haven’t even finished the game yet, but after putting around 8 hours into it already and still not being the slightest bit bored, I’m quite happy for this to be considered a huge amount of raving and cheering about something you most definitely should play (in effect, a review…).
Minecraft – How to build a New World
Minecraft reached Beta towards the end of 2010, and we decided it was time to start building our own new world. We rent a server from Multiplay and have been playing Survival Multiplayer mode for several months, exploring the land, mining for treasures, discovering natural caverns and of course building a whole load of fortresses, towers and dungeons. Unlike Classic mode, which gives you an unlimited amount of blocks in a limited space (see The Realm of Bal’dock), SMP mode drops you in an empty, infinite map, and leaves you to your own devices. You start out with absolutely nothing and must gather up resources before you can use them, so your creations feel considerably more valuable because they take more effort to produce. Below is a visual guide to the world we’ve made. Welcome to Diggasaurus Park…
Move over, Danny Boyle.. We’re better!
Along with dozens of other impulse-purchases thanks (or no thanks) to the recent Christmas sale on Steam, we decided to get our hands on the entire GTA IV collection for about £6 in December, which right now has ended up being one of the best decisions we made last year. Why? The GTA IV video editor, that’s why! Next stop, Hollywood.
The Kinect Review
Guest Article : Ivan Corbett
So we’ve seen in The Road to Kinect what the sensor is and how it works but the big question remains as to whether it’s worth buying.
So far the games released for Kinect have been less than inspired, sure they’re good at what they do. I mean Kinectimals for all its’ terrifying box art is possibly the best game for young kids I’ve ever seen and Kinect sports is good fun. But there’s not really a stand out title, or more worryingly something that hasn’t or couldn’t have been done before.
