Top Ten Games of 2011 Countdown
2011 is over, then. It was an interesting year for gaming, with a relatively slow start and only a handful of big game sequels appearing early on with the likes of Little Big Planet 2, a new Total War game and Dragon Age 2. This was followed up by a great summer featuring The Witcher 2, LA Noire, a new Valve game and the unbelievable release of the mammothly disappointing Duke Nukem Forever. Then Winter came, good grief. In what proved to be one of the best gaming winters of all time, we could hardly keep up with the amount of games that came out week after week for the final few months of the year. Uncharted 3, Saints Row The Third and Modern Warfare 3 all hit us within a couple of weeks, we had a new Assassin’s Creed game, old-school arcade fun from Renegade Ops, a return to form from Sega in Sonic Generations and charming puzzler Trine 2 just managed to squeeze in before the year was out.
But none of these games were good enough to make our list. No, the top 10 games of 2011 are better than all of these. Care to find out what they are? Check back here every day as we count them down… Read More ››
Eurogamer Expo London 2011
So this year a friend bought me a ticket for the Sunday of Eurogamer Expo for my birthday, and since I’ve somehow never been to an expo before, I gratefully took my ticket and made my way to London.

Canine Companions – Gaming’s Top 5 Dogs
I’ve always had a strange affinity with pooches. I just really love dogs. So, naturally, I really like it when a game features a hound or two. Some of my fondest ‘growing-up’ memories in life involved playing with my dog Molly, so its no surprise that I have a few favourite virtual mutts to go along with them. Here are my top five.

Minecraft 1.6 – A Wolf’s Tale
I tamed my first wolf the other day. Since 1.6 of the Minecraft beta was released, there’s been lots of cool new features, but by far the best addition is the packs of wolves that now roam the countryside. Now I can live the dream of exploring a new world with a canine companion. Its just like that film Cast Away, only with a dog instead of a football.
Real Life vs In-Game
I just went on a rather awesome road trip across America. It was a great way to get away from my unhealthy job (working on a computer) and my admittedly unhealthy hobby (playing on a computer) and I was both excited and ashamed to realise every place I visited reminded me of some videogame or other… As we traveled from Miami to New York and back again I saw so many locations which influenced some of my favourite games and it was great to compare them to my memories of their virtual counterparts.
The Deus Ex Diaries
We can’t bloody wait for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the long awaited prequel to the original Deus Ex that was on PC way back in 2000, which means that for the next five months until it’s finally released, there’s going to be a lot of time to be filled doing/playing other things. With that in mind, and considering how much I bloody love the Deus Ex universe, I decided to go back in time and play the original game all over again, whilst keeping a diary-ish record of my journey back to the past.
Half Life 3 announced
It is a glorious day. After years of delays, speculation and anticipation, Valve have officially announced Half Life 3. Gordon Freeman has been absent from gaming for far too long, but he’s finally returning. We all knew it was coming, but until now we’ve had no information and not even a single screenshot to gawp at, but overnight that has all changed. Read on for all the details.

Top Ten of 2010 – 1. Mass Effect 2
Finally we reach the game that took the number 1 spot in our top ten games of 2010, Mass Effect 2. A sci-fi, action-RPG masterpiece, this game well and truly deserves the top spot and all the prizes for everything it got right and the distinct lack of anything it got wrong.
Top Ten of 2010 – 2. Red Dead Redemption
As we reach the dizzying heights of number 2 on our 2010 countdown, we come to the bit that caused the longest debate. We always knew which 2 games we loved the most last year, but it took over an hour of heated debate to come to the ultimate conclusion… Red Dead Redemption is our runner-up…
Top Ten of 2010 – 3. Heavy Rain
Here we are at number 3 in the top ten games of 2010, with Heavy Rain a definite fully deserved winner of this spot. No game has ever made us feel quite so connected to the story, with every action resulting in a consequence, often in the most unbelievable way, and where every emotion of every character can really have an effect on your decision making skills.
Top Ten of 2010 – 4. Minecraft
As we continue through the top 5 of our countdown, we come to the game that we posted more about than any other game in the past year. Unquestionably the biggest indie hit of 2010, and it spent the majority of that year in alpha. This is Minecraft…
