Team Ico news – HD remakes, and The Last Guardian trailer

Tokyo Game Show has kicked off, and the only game I was interested in has already been shown off. There’s been no new news of The Last Guardian for over a year, and the new trailer is as gorgeous, and intriguing as 2009’s E3 trailers. It seems to show a bit of gameplay, but is mostly in-engine footage of the big creature and the kid interacting. Having been getting rather excited at the thoughts of the game coming out soon, I now have to calm myself down as the supposed release date will be “Holiday 2011”, according to IGN. I don’t know what this means, exactly, but it’s obviously not going to be out anytime soon! In the meantime, I’ll have the HD remakes of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus to keep me busy, and that’s a fine compromise to me. Click below for trailers.

Mario is 25 today. Cripes

Mario has been around for 25 years, as of today. Nintendo have made a cool retrospective video about the iconic plumber, which is worth a watch. I’ve never been the biggest fan of his games, due mostly to a severe lack of skill on my part at old classic platformers which Mario practically invented. It’s impossible to deny the influence these games have had on the industry, though. Paul has been playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 and will hopefully have a review up soon. In the meantime, Happy Birthday, Jumpman ^_^ Read More ››

Halo Reach incoming…

Ever heard of Halo? Yeah, they’ve made a new one. It’s quite good apparantly. All the TV adverts are hideously pretentious and rubbish so here’s an old trailer which came out ages ago instead. Paul and I will probably get this and play the co-op which has always been the best feature of this massively-overrated franchise. It’s out tomorrow.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent – Demo

Holy mother of shitting crikey that was horrible. Paul and I just played through the demo of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and it has to be the scariest demo I’ve ever played, and quite honestly I don’t know HOW I managed to finish it. It’s by the maker’s of Penumbra, but its undoubtedly better… Major demo spoilers below, but go play it for yourself right now.

Lair of the Shadowbroker – Mass Effect 2 DLC

The newest bit of DLC for Mass Effect 2 is out soon, subtitled Lair of the Shadowbroker, it looks as though we’re finally gonna discover who or what that slightly more elusive man is. Or woman. Or alien. If my damn PC save files hadn’t corrupted, my Shepherd could even continue her relationship with Liara! Alas, until I get round to replaying through the entire game again, there’ll be no more disturbing cross-spieces lesbianism’s going on…which is a shame. Check out the trailer below.

Portal 2 Robo-co-op

Look at them! Just look at them! Portal 2 will definitely feature co-op, and you’ll apparently play as 2 robots each with their own portal guns. I wonder if this will link to the single player story in any way, or just be a separate component to the main game? Either way, you simply must click below to watch the new teaser trailer.

Portal 2 – Stephen Merchant joins cast

Portal 2 has been given a release date! February 9th 2011, apparantly. Watch it slip to at least Christmas 2013, once we approach that date, though. But that’s not all! If you’ve seen the videos a month or two ago, you’ll have seen Wheatley, a little spherical robot that accompanies you through some of the levels. He will now be played by Stephen Merchant, which is bloody brilliant. Don’t spoil the game by watching the footage below (is what I told myself before and while watching it).

Bioshock Infinite – Goodbye Rapture, Hello Columbia!

Bioshock Infinite

There’s some exciting yet controversial news for Bioshock fans! There’s an all-new game on the horizon (woo!) but it’s not set underwater, not about Rapture, and well, seems to have next-to-nothing to do with Bioshock 1 or 2…

The Signal – Alan Wake’s newest episode is available now!

Alan Wake - The Signal

If you bought and played Alan Wake when it was released earlier this year, then you may by pleased to hear that the first episode of downloadable content has just been made available on Xbox Live! It gets better though, because if you bought the game brand new you are able to download it absolutely free! (or for 560 Microsoft Points if you went for a pre-owned offering of the game instead).

According to descriptions, this first episode entitled ‘The Signal’ continues the story of Alan Wake’s twisted mind right where the main game left off, and allows us to delve even deeper into the utterly insane world being created in his own mind.

StarCraft 2 – It’s very nearly here…

I never actually played the original StarCraft, and so I’m not that excited about the ridiculously-long-awaited-and-hyped-to-shit sequel, but any follow-up to the game that became a national sport in South Korea is worthy of attention, especially since it’s out on Tuesday. That, and I’m a sucker for Blizzard’s truly masterful CGI animation, of which the newest trailer is mostly made up of.
